Oral Hygiene Maintenance: Adhere to meticulous oral hygiene practices. Utilize fluoridated dentifrice and a soft toothbrush, along with dental floss, on a daily basis. Incorporate a water flosser to enhance the cleansing of interdental areas and the interface between the implant and natural teeth. Non-alcoholic mouth rinses may be used.
Recall Appointments: Patients who have undergone dental implant surgery should attend scheduled recall appointments every 6-12 months for the evaluation of implant integrity and the status of the remaining dentition. Regular follow-ups facilitate the early detection and timely management of potential issues, thereby enhancing implant longevity and providing patient reassurance. Prior to a recall visit, patients should contact the clinic to arrange an appointment, streamlining the examination process.
For the initial 1 hour post-abutment placement, mastication should be avoided to prevent any disturbance to the implant site. During the first week, a soft, liquid diet is recommended, with slow and gentle chewing. Avoid the consumption of excessively hot or cold foods.
Following this initial sensitive period, a gradual return to a normal diet is permissible. However, the selection of excessively hard foods should be avoided, and forceful chewing in the implant abutment region should be minimized.
Hydration:During this phase, to maintain oral hygiene and alleviate post-surgical discomfort, patients should ensure adequate fluid intake. This will contribute to a cleaner oral environment and expedite wound healing.
Strict avoidance of digital manipulation or contact with any hard or sharp objects to the implant site for healing assessment is crucial, as this can severely compromise osseointegration.
Refrain from forceful expectoration, tongue thrusting against the surgical site, or manual manipulation of the wound.
Dietary Progression: Gradually reintroduce foods, starting with soft textures and advancing to more solid consistencies. Strictly avoid consuming excessively hard items such as bones, cartilage, and ice.
Bilateral Chewing: Employ even masticatory forces on both sides of the jaw.
Smoking Cessation/Abstinence: Minimize or ideally eliminate tobacco use.
