What is circumcision surgery?
Circumcision is a minor surgery – known as minor circumcision. This surgery is to remove the foreskin covering the head of the penis (the skin that covers the tip of the penis).
Circumcision can be performed on adults and children. For young children, minor circumcision is only performed when the child is healthy. As for adults, circumcision surgery is performed when they have balanitis, foreskin stenosis (meaning the foreskin cannot be pulled past the penis head), or when the foreskin cannot be pulled down completely.
Why should men have circumcision?
Lots of customers are wondering why they should undergo circumcision. Circumcision is only a surgical procedure to remove the excess foreskin on the penis glans (head of the penis), but why should men have circumcision? The benefits below shall prove it right:
- Undergoing circumcision helps men clean genitals easily, preventing genital infections that affect male reproductive health.
- Especially for men whose foreskin is long, narrow, and inflamed, it will make the penis smaller and shorter than usual, causing difficulty urinating, affecting the erectile function of the penis, pain while having sex, premature ejaculation, decreased libido, infertility. These cases require immediate circumcision.
Although circumcision is minor surgery, it is extremely important because the male glans have physiological and excretory functions. These are the reasons why men should have circumcision.
When should men have circumcision?
When should men have circumcision? Circumcision is a minor but extremely important surgery. If a man has the following conditions, he must have circumcision immediately:
- Long foreskin: This condition occurs when a man reaches puberty but the foreskin has not been retracted, at this time the foreskin still covers most of the penis glans. Long foreskin occurs means when the penis erects, the person still has to use his hand to pull the foreskin down. The length of the foreskin makes it impossible for men to have sex, so circumcision is necessary.
- Narrow foreskin: when the foreskin is too small, the penis is covered by the skin that cannot be exposed (this condition is complete narrow foreskin), or if the penis head is exposed, it is only exposed half of the penis head.
- Obstruction of the foreskin: This condition occurs when the foreskin is narrow and the man intentionally turns the foreskin down, leading to strangulation of the foreskin. Thereby preventing the foreskin from returning to its normal state, hugging the penis tightly, obstructs blood circulation, causing the penis to be swollen. Men must go to reputable medical facilities to have circumcision immediately.
- Recurrence of balanitis: for many different reasons, men get balanitis that recurs many times. When this happens, the solution is to have circumcision immediately.
- Circumcision can be applied to treat penile cancer.
Circumcision is extremely important for men. If you encounter the conditions mentioned above, you should have circumcision immediately.
Benefits of circumcision
Why must men have circumcision? Here are 5 benefits of male circumcision.
- Undergoing circumcision can reduce the risk of genital infections: after circumcision, the penis will become open, significantly reduce the number of bacteria, and reduce the risk of urinary tract infections.
- Undergoing circumcision can reduce the risk of penile cancer.
- Improve sex life with your partner. Removing the foreskin can enhance sexual quality and intimacy, helping the men to be more confident.
- Prolong sex time: because of the fact that after circumcision, the penis will be exposed to the outside environment and become more durable. Therefore, circumcision helps to treat premature ejaculation and prolong sexual time.
- Reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases: The circumcised penis will become dry, significantly reducing harmful bacteria residing on the penis (including bacteria harmful sexually transmitted). Therefore, when circumcised, harmful bacteria no longer have a habitat and are forced to die in the external environment.
Circumcision methods
Nowadays, there are 3 methods of circumcision:
- Traditional circumcision method: using a knife and scissors to cut off the narrow foreskin, then suture the wound. Customers do not need to go to a specialized medical facility to have the suture removed.
- Plasma circumcision: this is a modern circumcision method. No bleeding, no pain, no swelling, suturing with nanotechnology without suture removal. The recovery only takes 5 – 7 days (Notes: The recovery time depends on the customer’s condition).
- Laser circumcision: this is the most advanced circumcision technique nowadays. By using laser rays to cut the excess foreskin, the customer will not feel any pain and their safety is ensured. The procedure applying laser technique is carried out quickly, the customer can leave for home after the surgery. At the same time, the recovery is quicker than the tradition and Plasma circumcision. The recovery process takes 3 – 5 days. (Notes: the recovery depends on the customer’s health condition).
However, laser circumcision can only be applied to men who have long or narrow foreskin, other more severe cases can not undergo laser circumcision.
On the other hand, traditional circumcision can be applied to all foreskin conditions.
Circumcision procedure
The circumcision procedure includes the following 3 steps:
-Step 1: Clinical examination before performing circumcision surgery. During this examination, the doctor will examine whether the man has an infection of the genitals or not. If there is an infection, it will be treated first, the circumcision will be performed to prevent infection of the wound.
-Step 2: The circumcision procedure needs to follow the steps below:
- Use an antiseptic solution to clean the penis and foreskin.
- Numb the vein in the foreskin.
- Stretch and widen the mouth of the foreskin with Medical Pliers. Then clean the inside of the foreskin and glans of the penis.
- Separate the foreskin from the penis, then mark the point of circumcision.
- Remove the foreskin based on the marked point.
- After the circumcision surgery has been completed. The doctor will use medical sutures to suture the wound.
-Step 3: Once the circumcision is completed, the customer receives intensive care for about 30 minutes. If the patient’s health is stable, he can leave the hospital right away. The doctor will give prescriptions and a guide for personal care and hygiene at home.
7-10 days after circumcision, the wound will heal gradually. After 2-3 weeks, all activities can return to normal. This is an extremely important time, the patient needs to care for and clean thoroughly to recover.

The downsides of poor-quality circumcision
Choosing a poor-quality circumcision service at an illegal medical facility that is not allowed to operate, customers will encounter complications affecting their health such as:
- Bleeding: a common complication of circumcision at poor-quality medical facilities is bleeding. Bleeding from the penile frenulum and large blood vessels in the penis shaft, or bleeding between the sutures at the edge of the foreskin. In this case, the bleeding will usually stop on its own, in many cases, a bandage is required.
- Incision infection: If doctors do not clean thoroughly during circumcision surgery and take proper care of the wound, it will allow bacteria and viruses to enter and cause infection or disease. This is a rare situation during circumcision, but should not be taken lightly.
- Penile skin complications: if you choose a poor-quality place to have circumcision, men will suffer from complications of the foreskin. In case the doctor does not remove enough foreskin or asymmetrical cut, it may cause aesthetic loss. However, in cases where the doctor removes too much foreskin can twist or deviate the penis shaft, and even leave scars. If these conditions are severe, the customer must undergo surgery again.
- Adherence of the foreskin: when the glans and skin adhere at the penis tip, which may cause penis contracture.
- Urethral stricture: Narrowing of the urethra after circumcision is common in young children. This is due to improper circumcision, narrowing of the urethra due to the inflammation of the foreskin; in these cases, they need surgical circumcision.
- Penile trauma: this is the most serious complication of circumcision. Penile trauma includes the following lesions, urethral injury, torn penis glans, and necrosis of the penis shaft. In case of trauma to the urethra, it is necessary to conduct penile reshape, and if incorrectly circumcised, the foreskin must be sutured immediately.
- Balanitis: complications of inflammation and phimosis of the foreskin. This condition manifests when the skin becomes scarred, narrowing of the foreskin, affecting the glans, urinary opening, and urethra. Other symptoms include local inflammation, irritation, urinary discomfort, bleeding, and sometimes acute urinary retention or urinary incontinence. If this condition occurs, men must treat it with drugs and surgery.
