After surgery, the body needs a lot of energy and nutrients to regenerate tissue, heal wounds, reduce swelling, and fight infection. Therefore, you should prioritize foods:
Rich in protein such as chicken, lean pork, fish, eggs, tofu, milk, etc. Protein helps the body regenerate damaged cells and tissues.
Rich in vitamin C found in oranges, grapefruits, guavas, kiwis, strawberries. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system, helping wounds heal quickly.
Rich in zinc such as animal liver, oysters, pumpkin seeds, egg yolks, etc. Zinc helps fight inflammation, supports tissue recovery, and reduces the risk of infection.
Healthy fats like olive oil, avocado, salmon, various nuts, etc., help reduce inflammation and regenerate skin cell membranes.
Drinking 2 to 2.5 liters of water daily helps the body stay hydrated, eliminate toxins, and promotes tissue softening. In addition to plain water, you can also drink coconut water or unsweetened vegetable juices to boost vitamins and minerals.
After surgery, avoid straining during bowel movements as it can put pressure on the vaginal area. To prevent constipation, you should eat plenty of green vegetables (malabar spinach, amaranth, spinach, etc.), fresh fruits (papaya, dragon fruit, apples, etc.), sweet potatoes, and oats. Yogurt and probiotics also support a healthy digestive system.
Typically, the vaginal area will be most swollen during the first 3-5 days. After that, swelling gradually decreases and disappears completely after about 2-3 weeks. The sensation of pain or tightness may last for the first 5-7 days, after which it will significantly subside. However, depending on individual constitution, some people may experience slight swelling up to the 4th week.
The surgery uses dissolvable aesthetic sutures, so it usually does not leave noticeable scars if well-cared for. However, individuals prone to keloid scarring should inform their doctor beforehand for specific advice and close post-operative monitoring.
You can use thin, unscented panty liners for the first few days to absorb discharge, but they must be changed frequently (3-4 times/day). Absolutely do not use tampons or menstrual cups during the recovery phase.
You should abstain from sexual intercourse for at least 4-6 weeks after surgery, or until your doctor re-examines you and confirms that the wound has completely healed. Engaging in sexual activity too early can cause wound dehiscence, bleeding, and poor scarring.
A mild stinging sensation when urinating in the first few days is normal due to urine touching the open wound. You should gently rinse the vaginal area with warm water after urinating to reduce the stinging and maintain hygiene.
For the first 1-2 weeks, you should shower standing up, do not immerse yourself in water, and do not directly spray strong streams of water into the vaginal area. After showering, gently pat dry with a clean towel to avoid friction.
