Principles to Adhere to After Surgery
Post-operative care contributes to the satisfactory outcome of endoscopic buttock augmentation surgery. Some notes include:
- Follow-up and suture removal after 10 days.
- After buttock augmentation surgery, patients can sit by sitting on the ischial tuberosities (sitting bones), not directly on the augmented buttocks. The doctor will instruct the patient on the correct sitting posture.
- Patients must wear specialized buttock compression garments for 30 days to reduce swelling and promote rapid recovery after endoscopic buttock augmentation surgery.
- Patients can exercise or engage in strenuous activities after 2 months.
- Sleep on a buttock cushion at night.
- Diet: Avoid foods such as seafood, beef, sticky rice, etc., and refrain from using alcohol, beer, and stimulants, etc., to help the wound heal quickly and without scarring.
Post-Buttock Augmentation Care Stages
Immediately After Surgery
- Drainage tube: Usually, a drain will be placed at the incision site for 24 – 48 hours to drain fluid, helping to reduce swelling and the risk of fluid accumulation. You will need to empty/change the drainage bag several times a day until the drain is removed.
- Compression garment: Immediately after surgery, patients will also wear a specialized compression garment to help the implants stay in the correct position, maintain the new buttock shape, and stabilize the buttock area. Patients typically need to wear this garment for several weeks, about 6 – 8 weeks.
- Pain sensation: As soon as the anesthesia wears off, you will feel pain. The level of pain will depend on your pain tolerance and the surgical technique performed by the doctor. Patients can completely control their pain by taking the medication prescribed by the doctor if needed.
2-3 Days After Surgery
- Usually, during this time, patients will experience pain ranging from mild to severe depending on their condition, which can be controlled with pain medication. Limit bending over and absolutely do not sit or lie on your back while sleeping until allowed by the doctor. Sleep on your stomach or side, rest, watch TV or read, and occasionally get up and walk around to maintain good circulation. The only time you should sit is when using the toilet. You will notice bruising and swelling in the buttock area, which may even spread to the abdomen or thighs, feeling like deep muscle soreness after prolonged exercise. However, this condition is completely normal and will gradually subside after a few days or weeks. Patients continue to take antibiotics daily, keep the drain in place, and wear the compression garment.
1 Week After Surgery
- Pain and swelling, although still present, have significantly decreased. Patients are encouraged to walk more and can begin to perform light physical activities; however, bending over or sitting should still be minimized. During this time, patients can sit on soft, round or U-shaped pillows with the buttocks exposed, or place pillows under the thighs, putting pressure on the thighs rather than the buttocks when sitting. However, sitting in this manner should still be limited to about 30 minutes at a time. Many patients feel more excited as they begin to gradually see their results.
2 Weeks After Surgery
- During this time, some patients may be cleared to sit normally and lie on their back while sleeping, although most only maintain this for short periods of about 20 – 30 minutes at a time. Walking also feels more comfortable and normal. Although the pain has significantly reduced, the buttocks are still swollen. Patients are allowed to return to work, provided the job does not require too much physical exertion, and often still need to use pillows under the buttocks or thighs when sitting.
3-4 Weeks After Surgery
- Most bruising or swelling in the buttock area has disappeared. However, the implants and buttocks still feel firm and tight, and the implants have not yet settled. Many patients are cleared to begin light to moderate exercises. Sitting on the buttocks is also easier and allows for longer periods of sitting.
5-6 Weeks After Surgery
- Most swelling and bruising are gone, and the buttocks gradually reveal their final shape. Doctors often allow patients to return to all activities and exercises, including strenuous workouts and sexual activity. Patients sit and walk more comfortably; some may be allowed to remove the compression garment, but many patients still choose to wear it until the 8-week mark as it provides them with more comfort. Overall, everything at this point has almost returned to normal. However, the buttocks continue to settle into their final shape, and patients usually need about 6 months to see the final results.

Post-operative Diet
- Take all medications fully, at the correct dosage and time as prescribed.
- Eat more fruits and green vegetables, which are rich in vitamins A, C, and E, to help the wound heal quickly.
- Abstain from alcohol, stimulants, allergenic foods, chicken, beef, water spinach, sticky rice, and seafood for the first month.
- Avoid foods such as seafood, beef, and sticky rice.
